Auckland Electrical Inspectors for Code of Compliance Electrical Inspections
When is an electrical code of compliance from an electrical inspector required?
Legally must you have a Electrical code of compliance..........
after you have installed new wiring or switchboards in an electrical installation. Replacement of existing fittings does not require a Certificate. A certificate of compliance is necessary under regulation 39 even if you have made small additions such as two socket outlets.
Quoted from Worksafe NZ
Peace of mind - have it all legal and Protect the people you care about.
Once one of our Electrical inspectors has inspected your property they can give it a clean bill of health.
In the last 10 years there has been a large increase in electrical appliances in family homes, rental properties and offices. Often this has placed substantial pressure on existing wiring, plugs and switch boards.
The standard of wiring in older homes is often not good. Switches or broken plugs can be areas of concern especially when young children are around. Rodents and water can also create unseen issues
Inspections for Electrical Code of Compliance for Consents
When you submit an application for a Code of Compliance Certificate, you must obtain an energy work certificate on completion of any electrical work, as required by the Electricity Act 1992. TradeSkills electrical inspectors can organize this for you.

Further information on portable appliance Testing ( PAT ) the AS/NZS 3760
AS/NZS 3760 is a standard created by Standards Australia that outlines a testing method and frequency for electrical appliances. It was created to minimize electrical hazards in the workplace. Appliances are inspected for damage, and various measurements are made to the appliances' earth continuity, insulation, polarity, and physical condition. After testing has determined a pass, a tag is attached to the appliance lead indicating when it was tested, when the next test is due, and a tracking code. Retesting intervals of equipment can vary from 3 months to 5 years [1 ] depending of the environment where the equipment is located.
Frequency of testing
All new appliances should be tested prior to use
3 monthly - Building sites and hire equipment
6 monthly - Factories, work areas and cleaning equipment
Annually - Schools and all other areas
2 yearly - Residential areas of hotels, motels, rest homes
5 yearly - Some office and protected appliances
